Blood on the Southern Cross

On Sunday 3 December 1854, just on dawn, 150 men lay sleeping beside guns, pistols and pikes at the Eureka Stockade on the Ballarat Goldfields. Most of them were asleep when more than twice a many armed soldiers and police charged the Stockade.

A brief and bloody battle ensued. This was the first time on Australian soil that men had fought and died together under their own flag, the flag of the Southern Cross.

Blood on the Southern Cross: Clever use of fantastic sound and lighting effects stirs the imagination. The thunder of galloping horses on a licence hunt, the roar of fire as the Eureka Hotel blazes, the murmur of 500 diggers as they swear allegiance to their flag, the fearful clamour of that fateful battle at the Stockade.
