Blood on the Southern Cross
Sovereign Hill is a recreated goldfields township in Ballarat set over 25 hectares on a site which forms part of the richest alluvial goldfields in the world. This Ballarat tour, consists of a wide range of activities carried out daily by the costumed staff, many of whom portray some of the behaviors and prejudices of the 1850s. Visitors to Sovereign Hill can experience regular demonstrations and street theatre performances, 1850s style shopping, pan for real gold and visit Red Hill Mine which depicts the discovery of the 69kg Welcome Nugget, the second largest gold nugget ever found.
Blood on the Southern Cross is an explosive multi million dollar sound and light show, set under the night skies at Sovereign Hill. The story of the Eureka Rebellion, a dramatic battle between gold miners and Government forces at Ballarat on 3 December 1854, is retold nightly at Blood on the Southern Cross.
